Albuquerque to Maryland

After all the fun at the Balloon Fiesta it is time for the long haul back to Maryland. There is not much to see between New Mexico & the Mississippi. Texas is one big state & there is 2 days of basically nothing from Albuquerque to Amarillo, TX.

From Amarillo east you start to see trees & green again.

Bonham State Park, Texas. Waypoint #28

Onward across Louisiana, Mississippi & into Alabama. Montgomery was just going to be an overnight stop until we discovered that there is a 1/2 mile short track less than a mile from the campground & we happened to show up the day before race day. $15 for a whole day of noise & crashes... can't go wrong there.

Gunter Hill Park, Montgomery, AL

From Montgomery it was through Atlanta (no layover like flying but still a circus to get around the place) & on to Ashville, NC. We thought that we might catch some fall colour in the Southern Appalachians but that was not to be. A dry summer meant that the leaves went from an unhealthy green straight to brown.

Next big stop, waypoint 41 near Cape Hattarass, NC for a weekend of mud racing or mud bogging. This is drag racing through a mud pit.

From North Carolina it is on to the home stretch. The home stretch is is a two day drive. Part of it crosses the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay on a bridge & two tunnel combo that stretch twenty two miles. Last stop, Kiptopeke State Park at the very bottom of the Delmarva Penninnsula.

Bermudians can't go anywhere without stopping to shop & for us that place has become Dover, Delaware. No sales tax in delaware. After a couple days in Dover it was back to Severn Marine to away for the winter.
